CCO: Chief Community Officer

This shall be a movement.

What is uniquely exciting about working on a startup around art is it can be as pure as it can possibly get – here might not be where most money is made. So the careerists who chase money and prestige are self-selected out. Those who stick around love it truly. And they care.

I have been dancing as an amateur for 17 years since end of junior high. It accompanied me when my dad passed away, when I went through the grueling year of chinese college entrance exam, when I studied in changchun, when i first time lived in a foregin country, got my first job.

Dance took the role of my dad, who continues to educate me. and it took the role of a dear friend, who is always there when i need.

And it has been like that over half of my life as there is always something in the foreground of my life, school, job and relationship. I don’t need to be a professional in order to feel and express and create through dance. All I need is headphones, my favorite music of that momemnt, and here I go.

I know more people will do the same. If they:

they stop judging themselves as they know dance is more about enjoying themselves than performing/watching performance
suffer less from the steep learning curve via better education
identify movement as a source of deep joy

We want to spend the next 5 years, maybe 10, making these 3 things a reality. And we need that chosen one, you, to onboard to the mission and steer the ship together.

What you will do

We are the technologists who have already been working on the second point using software. You, the Chief Community Officer, will be the one connecting with people and building communities. You are the storyteller starting the movement to make it loud and clear: dance is the everybody’s activity.

Internally, you will also

strategize and chart the unknown path forward together
co-design the product experience

And if I have to be very explict about criteria:

We are a good fit if

You dance and you are obsessed with it
You think everyone can enjoy and benefit from dance
You think involving outsiders in dance helps artists make better living, which create a virtuous flywheel
You love, and excel at telling great stories, connecting with people and fostering communities

The Roadmap

We are artists, but operate like a technology startup:

Three-month work trial period
- Part-time work, most likely
- Test if we’re a good match
- Work together on specific milestones
If we’re a good match, you do it full-time
We seek funding immediately

Funding

Goal: $500k pre-seed round from institutional investors
My goal is to pay everyone more money than they previously was making
Every founder gets equal equity
