We are starting a movement to get people dancing, at scale. It involves extraordinary risk and hard work. But if we succeed…
What’s uniquely exciting about starting a startup around dance—or art, for that matter—is how pure it is. This isn’t finance or big tech. The careerists chasing money and prestige don’t come here. Those who choose dance love it dearly.
I started dancing at 14, halfway through my life ago now. Dance accompanied me through my father’s death, through the brutal year of China’s college entrance exam, through college, then abroad, then into my first job. Dance took my father’s place as my teacher. And it became the friend who was always there.
For 17 years, dance has been my anchor while everything else—school, career, relationships—shifted around it. I never needed to be a professional to feel, express, and create through dance. All I need is headphones, my favorite song of the moment, and I’m alive and free.
This isn’t just my story. Millions of people could find this same freedom through dance. But three things stop them:
- Self-judgment: Most people think dance is about performing or watching others perform—not personal expression.
- Brutal learning curve: Most beginners need years of classes before they can dance freely on their own.
- They never become dancers: People try classes, but quit before dance becomes part of who they are.
We’re going to spend the next decade removing these barriers. We’re two technologists (ex-Amazon engineer) building AI to solve the learning curve problem. Now we need a Chief Community Officer to complete the team.
What you will do
You’ll tell the story of why this matters. You’ll help people get off their phones, into their bodies, and into dance. You’ll create spaces—online and IRL—where people connect through movement.
Internally, you’ll:
- Strategy: Chart the path forward together
- Product: Co-design the experience
We are a good fit if
- Emotionally: You’re drawn to this mission—strongly.
- Intellectually: You believe this can work. You have the skills to make it work. You embrace unconventional solutions appearing weird at first.
- Practically: You’re ready for startup chaos: ambiguity, hard work, no guarantees.
The Roadmap
We’re artists, but operate as a technology startup.
The path:
- Three-month trial: Let’s see if we’re a match
- Full-time cofounder role: If aligned, you’re in with equal equity
- Fundraising: We’re raising a $500k pre-seed round
